๐ฒ Install an iSpeak Browser Extension
Live translation into Hmong & 100+ languages, right in Chrome.
๐ Which extension for which platform
Each iSpeak extension owns its own lane โ pick the one that matches what you're watching or reading:
| Extension |
Use it on |
What it does |
| ๐ฌ iSpeakMovieDub | Netflix & Amazon Prime Video | Reads the on-screen subtitles and speaks your language over the show (these are DRM-protected, so subtitles must be ON). |
| ๐ฒ iSpeakSocialDub | YouTube & Shorts, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok & X | Hears the audio and speaks your language over it โ works even with no captions. |
| ๐ง iSpeakPodcastDub | Podcasts & any other playing web audio | Hears the audio and speaks your language over it. (Blocked on Netflix/Prime/YouTube โ use the tools above there.) |
| ๐ฐ iSpeakArticle | Any web article | Reads the article text aloud in your language โ tap a paragraph to start from there. |
โ Get your iSpeak API key required
The extensions are free to install, but they need an iSpeak / Paj Hlub API key to translate and speak.
- Go to silverancestors.com/pajhlub-audio.html and choose a plan (a free tier is available).
- You'll receive a key that looks like
sft_live_xxxxxxxxโฆ โ keep it private. One key works in all of the iSpeak extensions.
โก Install it in Chrome
These aren't on the Chrome Web Store yet, so you load the one you chose yourself โ about a minute:
- Download the extension's
.zip from the home page (just the one you want), and unzip it โ remember where the folder lands.
- In Chrome, open
chrome://extensions
- Turn on Developer mode (toggle, top-right).
- Click Load unpacked โ select the unzipped folder.
- The black-and-white icon appears โ click the puzzle-piece ๐งฉ and pin it. (Repeat only if you want another one.)
Chrome may say it "isn't from the Web Store" โ that's normal for a direct install. Set your key once via the ๐ in the panel; close any panel with the โ.
๐ฑ On an Android tablet or phone new
Android's own Chrome can't run extensions โ but the free Quetta Browser can. Today this works best for ๐ฌ iSpeakMovieDub:
| ๐ฌ iSpeakMovieDub | โ
Works on Android (Amazon Prime full shows; Netflix previews โ see note). |
| ๐ฐ iSpeakArticle | โ
Works on Android โ reads any news article / web page aloud in your language. |
| ๐ฒ SocialDub ยท ๐ง PodcastDub | Desktop only for now โ they capture tab audio, which mobile browsers don't support yet. |
Install (about two minutes)
- From Google Play, install โQuetta - Video Private Browserโ (by Quetta Networks).
- Download the extension
.zip onto the device (email it to yourself or use Google Drive โ it lands in Downloads). Donโt unzip it โ Quetta loads the .zip directly.
- Quetta โฎ โ Extensions โ turn Developer mode ON โ tap โ+ (from .zip/.crx/.user.js)โ โ pick the
.zip โ enable it.
Watch & dub (Amazon Prime)
- In Quetta, tap โฎ โ Desktop site (ON), then go to primevideo.com โ play a title โ if asked, choose โwatch in browserโ (not the app).
- Turn subtitles / CC ON โ English (tap the video โ CC icon).
- ๐ Thereโs no toolbar icon on mobile โ open Quettaโs โฎ / puzzle (Extensions) menu and tap โiSpeakMovieDub.โ Its panel drops onto the page. Paste your ๐ key, pick your language โ it dubs each subtitle line aloud.
Netflix on Android: browse-page previews dub fine, but full titles show error โE100โ โ thatโs Netflixโs DRM blocking tablet/phone browsers, not the extension. Use Amazon Prime for full shows on Android; full Netflix works on a computer.
โข Use the one you installed
๐ฌ iSpeakMovieDub โ Netflix & Amazon Prime
- Open a movie/show on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video with subtitles available. (YouTube is now handled by iSpeakSocialDub โ audio capture, no captions needed.)
- Click the pinned iSpeakMovieDub icon โ its panel opens. Click ๐ to paste your key (once).
- Turn subtitles/CC ON โ on Netflix/Prime, pick the English subtitle track (it reads them to translate) โ then pick your language and click ๐ Active.
Netflix & Prime are DRM-protected, so iSpeakMovieDub reads the on-screen subtitles (it can't hear the movie) โ they must be turned on. It then speaks your language over the show and shows the translated text on screen.
๐ฒ iSpeakSocialDub โ YouTube, Shorts & social video
- Open a video on YouTube or Shorts, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or X. Click the pinned iSpeakSocialDub icon โ a popup opens (Chrome requires tab-audio capture to start here). Paste your key there.
- Pick your From (the spoken language) and To (your language), then click Start โ a bar appears while it dubs. Click its โ to stop.
SocialDub hears the audio and speaks over it, so it works even when there are no captions at all โ the only iSpeak tool that can. Desktop Chrome/Edge (a mobile version is on the roadmap).
๐ฐ iSpeakArticle โ any article
- Open any article, click the pinned iSpeakArticle icon โ its panel opens. Click ๐ to paste your key (once).
- Pick your language, click ๐ Click-to-Read, then tap any paragraph โ it reads aloud from there.
๐ง iSpeakPodcastDub โ any playing audio
- Open a page with a playing podcast/audio, click the pinned iSpeakPodcastDub icon โ a popup opens (Chrome requires tab-audio capture to start here). Paste your key there.
- Pick your language and click Start โ a bar appears while it dubs. Click its โ to stop.
PodcastDub is for podcasts & other audio. On Netflix/Prime use iSpeakMovieDub, and on YouTube/Shorts use iSpeakSocialDub โ PodcastDub blocks those so the tools never overlap.
โฃ Updating to a new version
The extensions improve often. When a newer version is on the home page, updating takes about 20 seconds โ and your API key and settings are kept:
- Download the new
.zip and unzip it over your existing extension folder, replacing the old files. Keeping the same folder is what preserves your key and settings.
- Open
chrome://extensions, find the extension, and click its โป Reload icon.
- Done โ the version number on the card updates to the new one. You do not need to re-enter your key.
If you instead unzip to a new/different folder, Chrome treats it as a fresh install: Remove the old one, Load unpacked the new folder, and paste your key once more. Unzipping over the same folder avoids that.
